FOMR Financial
Friends of the Middle River is a sub-committee of The Friends of the Shenandoah River, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
FOMR has grown from a budget of $7,000 in 2015 to one of approximately $30,000 in 2020. Ninety percent of FOMR’s revenues are in the form of donations made at different times through the calendar year.
In the summer, our individual and business donors, who we call “Sponsors,” help support our summer activities such as our Float Trips, our Middle River Cleanup, and our River Access Program. At year’s end we also send out a year-end appeal to those who have not contributed earlier in the year.
In 2019, 143 different donors contributed to FOMR. Of those 143 donors, 110 donated an amount between $10 and $100, the most popular of which was $100 (54 donors).
In addition to donations, FOMR sells raffle tickets for its annual kayak raffle. Raffle ticket sales typically represent 6-8% of our annual revenues.
In some years, FOMR has been the recipient of grants from the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge or from the Shenandoah Valley Pure Water Forum.
Here’s a snapshot of our revenues from 2017 through 2019.
